Geordi And the Droids
"Coming upon a planet, sir.", Lt Commander Data told Captain Jean-Luc Picard. "What class is it, Data?" "Class-M, I believe, sir. I have been monitoring the planet's communications, the species, the technology, and the system of government. The government is unorganized, mainly owned by the gambling circuits, which are owned by a sluglike creature called Jabba Desilijic Tiure. He has a palace on the outskirts of the town called Mos Eisley. What should we do, sir?" "Send an away team, Data. But who?" "I suggest Lieutenant Worf, Lieutenant Commander Geordi, and myself, Captain." "Make it so, Data." Soon, Data, Geordi, and Worf found themselves on the planet the natives called Tatooine. Worf was complaining that the heat made him cranky. Data didn't mind the heat, being an android and all, and Geordi was the most interested of the group. He was fascinated with the creatures and the technology of Mos Eisley. He was impressed with how a culture could survive in such harsh conditions, and was surprised that the buildings resembled the dwellings of the ancient Navajo tribe which lived in what was the state of Arizona in the 20th century. Geordi wanted to take it all apart bit by bit, to find out what made it work. He wouldn't get a chance though. They were on a diplomatic mission, trying to get this barren planet to join the Federation. Right before they reached the outskirts of Mos Eisley, Worf got thirsty and headed toward the local cantina. They sat down in between an alien with a spacesuit and an orange gas mask on, and an ugly man with a cloak shrouding him. The aliens seemed drunk and unfriendly. The bartender came over and asked them what they wanted. Geordi and Worf ordered the same thing and Data ignored him. "What do ya want, Shiny?" the bartender commanded, nicknaming Data. "What do you mean, sir, by calling me 'Shiny'? It is not my name." "Are ya gonna order or what? They don't pay me for standing around looking at aliens." "I am an android, not an alien. I do not require a drink right now, sir." "We don't serve neither of your kind. Non-drinkers or droids! Get out! All of you!" This provoked Worf to throw his drink at the bartender and storm out. Geordi and Data soon came after him. The ugly man followed silently. "This was unexpected!" Geordi yelled out over the howling wind. A storm had picked up right after they'd left the town. "Come on! There is a cave on the other side of these outcroppings!" Worf told the others. They got inside just before Tatooine's twin suns had set beyond the storm. "We are safe now." Data announced. Suddenly, without warning, a blaster bolt hit the rock above Data's head. "On second thought, we are not safe now." Worf and Geordi whipped out their phasers and shot out into the darkness of the cave. They heard a thud as the body of their assailant hit the ground. Data, using his night vision, dragged the body toward the other two. He used a tricorder and told Geordi and Worf that he was still alive, that their phasers had been on stun. The next morning, Data contacted Captain Picard assuring him of their safety and that their mission had continued. Worf dragged the body out of the cave and left him. They traveled on. As they walked, they heard voices ahead of them. They saw two droids coming off of a desert path onto their road. One was golden and humanoid, and one was blue and white, similar to a garbage can. The golden one babbled on about how the owner of the palace was horrific and tortured aliens and droids. Worf, Geordi, and Data stayed at their distance, not to alarm the droids. When the droids reached the door, they jumped behind a rock. They heard the golden droid speaking a language they had never heard before. Suddenly, the heavy metal door burst open, allowing the droids to come inside. Geordi, Data, and Worf slipped in unnoticed and started down a side hallway. Worf, brushing the dust off of himself, and Data, trying to decipher the writings on the wall, completely left Geordi undetected. They were split up, and Geordi traveled down another side hallway, which lead to the droid torture chamber. There he met someone he would never forget. EV-9D9 had been working all day and was tired of sending droids one after one to certain jobs. He enjoyed torturing them, though, every chance he got. Life(if you can say droids have lives) was boring nonetheless. He soon closed up for the day, leaving one droid in the torture chamber. "Who's there?" Geordi wondered as he stepped into the vast room full of strange machinery. He heard a small voice coming from one of the machines. He stepped over to it, pulled a lever, and out fell a small garbage can shaped droid, just like the one outside, but colored differently, with green and yellow instead of blue and white. It started making strange beeping noises, none that Geordi could understand. He found something on the table nearby that he hoped was a translator, and luckily, it was. What the droid had said was: "Thank you very much for saving me, master. I am now in a Life Debt to you." "What does that mean?" Geordi asked the droid, who called it self R4-L6. "A Life Debt is what I owe you for saving my life. If you are in danger, I will be forced to put my life on the line for you, even sacrificing my life. It is usually between aliens, but I feel myself indebted to you from seeing this palace." "That sounds terrible. First, before escaping, though, we must find my friends." Geordi told his new friend. They traveled through the palace until they reached the audience chamber. They got there just in time to watch Worf fall through a trap door in front of who R4-L6 told Geordi was Jabba. The aliens in the audience chamber rushed forward, blocking Geordi from view of the small viewing hole. Data came up from behind them and told Geordi to follow him to where Worf would end up. "They have taken our transmitters, we have no way of contacting the Enterprise." Data told Geordi. They reached the Rancor pit and Data and Geordi stunned the Rancor Keeper and his assisstant with their phasers. Geordi punched the door open and it slowly rose up, allowing Worf to slide under. Geordi contacted the Enterprise and they were beamed up, leaving the shuttle behind. On the ship, Data and Geordi studied the small droid, R4-L6, who told them of the vast history of the universe they were in. He told them of Coruscant, a planet covered in one incredibly large city, of Alderaan, a peaceful planet destroyed too soon, Bespin, a gas mining colony controlled by gamblers and thieves, and finally the Empire, a growing force in the universe almost completely in control over every one, if it weren't for a small band of Rebels. Just before jumping back home, the Enterprise crew sighted a small ship, with warp technology. R4-L6 told them that they called it hyperspace technology. Data identified it as the Millennium Falcon.
